Georgetown wines

A tranquil place to chill.

Red garden night hawker

A haunt before we head down to Georgetown wines.

Fried oyster in soft batter.
Fried kuey tiao ~ one of the better dishes in this hawker.
Kuey tiao Thng (dried) with additional braised egg.
Thai style rice
Lor mee
Frog leg stir fried with spring onions paired with plain porridge.

Barbecue chicken wings.

Deep fried chicken with cheese - oil temperature needs to go up a notch and improve in seasoning.

七条路 ~ the 7th street

Another market to bring guests to savour the hawker fare of Penang on a late breakfast/lunch hour.  The one stop shop when guests have limited time to taste the best of Penang.

Char kuey tiao is one best stores in this market.
Char kuey kak
Assam laksa broth is a little diluted.
Clockwise from top : hokkein mee, kuey tiao tng (one of the best store in this hawker Center), Lou Han Guo dessert (we always pick seats in this corner of the hawker Center), curry mee (very spicy n rich with pigs blood, clams and cuttlefish), Chee cheong fun (one of my kl guests loved this and described it to have the 'old style' taste which going extinct).
The wide variety of Kuehs along the main aisle in the market.

Lor mee ~ Hainanese @ Pulau Tikus

One of the famous lor mee specialty store in Penang, serving breakfast-lunch hours.  We added lor bak and braised egg.  The gravy is gluey and yummy.

This is a corner store located at the intersection of Jones road and Burma road.

Porridge ~ Lorong selamat

We often drop by this place when we want a quick light early dinner, before we head to the airport for our weekend flight.  Service is fast and food is freshly prepared.  They serve dishes that complement porridge, done the traditional way.  A visit here brings back memories of grandma's home cooked simple dishes.

Makao fish ~ slight sour taste and very palatable with porridge.
One of my favourite chai bo omelette in town.
The 'blackest' stir fried pork belly I've ever come across.
Fresh greens stored fried with garlic.
Stir fried beancud with vegetables.
Another version of fried fish with soy sauce.
White porridge with sweet potato

Basement 6 cafe

A pretty cool place to have al fresco set lunch.  Price is reasonable with generou serving and taste.  The waitress invited us to return for the live band performance at night.

Location: 56, Chow Thye Road, 10050, Georgetown, Penang

Business Hours: Tue-Sun 9.00am-1.00am

Soup is creamy and garlic toast is yummy.
Aglio olio is of good standard with some spice.
My lunch date had chicken chop which looks inviting.

Fried kuey tiao - Siam road

One of the best char kuey tiao in town.  Be prepared to wait 30mins to an hour for good food.  Kuey tiao is very smooth and very tasty.

Have a drink after dinner at Upper Penang road.

九王爷@槟城

This is such an interesting festival in Penang and I only discovered it's fun on its last day.  Such a feast, variety of vegetarian fare (tze char, lor bak, burgers, mixed dishes).  Desserts (including fried durian) and snacks (curry puff, peanut puff and many more I've never come across).  Next year, I'm going to join in the fun from Day 1.

Check out the super long bamboo reaching up the sky.
